Drain Plug Removal Volvo Penta Sail drive Unit

Has anyone found a useful tool for removing the drain plug and the bottom of the VP sail drive unit.  Very stubborn.

Flat head with a hex shaft and an a spanner on the shaft

Yeah no luck with that this time Steve, not sure why it is more difficult this year.  Want to make sure there is no water in there before it freezes.  Impact driver may be the way to go although the slot is fairly wide.

Fluid Film then tap and wait two hours later removed with ease.

Fluid film is magic stuff

We used an impact hammer the first year.  Haven't had trouble since, so suspect it hadn't been removed for a couple of years.

What is "fluid film"?

Penetrating fluid that works very well
