What type of sails are you using?

There aren’t many 99’s in the Great Lakes so it’s hard to put together a class or OD fleet (Independence is a bit of Frankenstein with the AL rig, deep draft, and retractible sprit). What sails are you all currently using and from whom? I’m looking for a new main and  the C&C 121 I race on just bought a new carbon main from Precision sails. My current main is a fat roach Doyle with full battens. It is SO old I had to put 6 patches on it this spring and it still does 7.5 upwind with no trouble.

We did a sail survey a couple of years ago for the C&C 99 fleet.  File couldn't be attached as it is Excel but if you send me your email address I can forward it.  We had fleet proposals from UK, Doyle and Rolly Tasker.  People either went with a local loft or Rolly Tasker.  I have a mix of sails mostly Rolly Tasker now.  All prices have taken a big jump this year like everything I guess.  I have the old quotes if you want them let me know.  Prices are out of date but probably good for comparison.

All Doyle for Kingfisher.

Stratis #1, #2 and racing main (carbon w/ taffeta)

Dacron cruising/knockabout main

Kevlar main

Kevlar #1, Kevlar #2 (taffeta both sides), and a Kevlar/taffeta #3

Both kites are Doyle as well.

As I recall Doyle was the maker originally supplying the 99s out of the factory.  These days pretty much any sailmaker worth his salt can cut sails for you.  Even MauriPro has stock sails in their warehouse that are built for the 99.  Prices there are low, but I don't know the maker or the quality.  Caveat emptor.

Hey Independence can you send us a picture of Independence along with your contact info year built and hull number so we can add you to the fleet page of this site.  Would also appreciate some info on your sprit, was it factory done or an add on.
